Windows 8.1 Tutorials

This is likely to be greeted with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor, given the past year of Windows 8 and the impression it has made on the public. But, for those who need a bit of help finding their way, Microsoft is providing some hand-holding for Windows 8.1. The nudge comes in the form of a new tutorial series unveiled today, and in plenty of time for those who receive their first device this holiday season.

Microsoft’s Rob Margel today announced that “whether you’re brand new to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, or just want a refresher, these 10 tutorials will show you the basics”. The series includes titles such as “how to get online”, “your Microsoft account”, “the Start screen” and “using SkyDrive”, to name only a few. All are provided in relatively short, easy to follow format.

The series is all about learning the new operating system, but once you have mastered those basics, the goal posts can be moved a bit further down the field. The company has also produced videos covering such wide-ranging topics as games, music, videos, photos and even how to keep your kids safe on the internet.

For the experienced user, Windows 8 and 8.1 may not prove so difficult to get around, but the latest operating systems are certainly rather different from predecessors. The new user interface provides a slightly large roadblock in front of casual computer users, making the new series of video tutorials a needed compliment to the OS, and a much appreciated addition.
