The Microsoft Garage has been busy recently developing apps for specialty needs like Maker.js and Work Item Studio, but also apps that are more helpful in everyday situations.
One such app just released by Microsoft Garage is Receipt Tracker. This Windows Phone app helps users quickly snap a picture of a receipt, extract the info and amounts, and compile it to keep track of expenses. The Windows Phone Store describe the app as:
“Receipt Tracker, a Microsoft Garage project, is an expense tracking app that uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to automatically extract information from receipt photos. Receipt Tracker allows users to categorize and visualize their expenses into organized collections of receipts which can then be emailed or sent to OneNote.”
The advantages of Receipt Tracker over just using Office Lens or scanning receipts is you can conveniently group together expenses for say a specific trip, and then categorize the expenses to get a more detailed visualization of how money was spent. If you are interested in trying out Receipt Tracker for free you grab it on the Windows Phone Store.
