Well, it did not take long for former Window Phone users to make use of the customization extensibility of Android to call the platform home. That’s no more evident than watching the Microsoft browser Edge hit the top 20 Free Apps chart in the Google Play Store (via MSPU).
As a few days ago the new browser held a 6% market share on desktops as it looks to reinvigorate Microsoft’s browser mindshare from the often-mocked days of IE. Edge is now expanding to mobile joining the fray of pocketable browsers at a time where mindsets have settled mostly on Safari, Chrome and Samsung’s Internet browser thus presenting a similar challenge s its desktop counterpart.
Edge sits comfortably at 17 on the Google Play chart just behind Facebook, Netflix, and Outlook.
As the days continue, I expect to see other apps probably replace Edge on this chart but it’ll be interesting to see the download numbers behind the app as I suspect more Windows Phone converts and Windows 10 users look to build more continuity between their phones and their PCs.
The Edge team is constantly working on bringing new features to the browser for desktop, as an Edge user on Android, I hope they share that same drive for mobile.
