The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is now rolling out to PCs across the world, and it is bringing a lot of new experiences to the operating system. At the forefront of these features are a couple of enhancements to Microsoft Edge, so without further ado, here is what you need to know about some of the recent updates to the Microsoft Edge web browser.
Fluent Design:
With the Windows 10 Fall Creators update, Edge gets a facelift. There is now a subtle acrylic look and transparency on the tab bar and other controls. Microsoft also worked on button animations, making them more fluent, and responsive.
New ways to mark up e-books and PDF files:
Also new in Edge in the Fall Creators Update is the ability to mark up e-books or PDFs in more ways than ever. You can highlight e-books and PDFs in up to multiple colors, add comments or notes, and copy text. Cortana can also be summoned and can provide information about the content you’re looking at without leaving the page.
Pinning websites to the taskbar, hearing the web, and editing URLs in Favorites:
Accessing your favorite websites is now as easier in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. You can pin a website to the taskbar, and it will be saved with its icon, helping you easily access the content you care about most. And, speaking of access, Edge is now able to read web pages, e-books, and certain documents out loud, helping it make reading easier for those with disabilities. Lastly, for those times when you’ve made a mistake, you can also edit the URL address for favorites, by right-clicking and selecting Edit URL.
Website permissions, full-screen browsing, and Continue on PC:
Microsoft changed three core areas of Edge with the Windows 10 Creators Update. You can now control website permissions by clicking on the “Show site information” pane on a website via the lock or “I” icon. This will allow you to see the permissions you’ve granted, including your webcam, location, and access to notifications.
Also new is the ability to browse the web in full-screen mode. According to Microsoft, you can access this feature by pressing more from the “…” menu and click the “Full screen” arrows icon, or press “F11” on your keyboard. This mode will hide the address bar, giving you full and clean access to the web experience.
Finally, is the Continue on PC Feature. Users with the Edge app on iOS or Android, or with the Continue on PC app, can now start reading a website on their phone, and then continue on a Windows 10 PC with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
