Microsoft Teams on mobile is getting some important updates on mobile this month. Indeed, the company has started rolling out two new features that should improve the meetings experience, with a Large gallery view and device audio sharing option.
First of all, Microsoft Teams is adding support for a Large gallery view for meetings on both iOS and Android, something that is available on desktop clients since last year. This Large gallery layout update has been tailored to fit small screens, making it easier to navigate between video feeds.
Keep in mind that the new Large Gallery layout is rolling out gradually and it will only be “available for iOS 13+ or Android OS 9+ or any version with more than 4GB RAM.” Microsoft says that all those iOS and Android devices that don’t meet these configuration requirements will keep supporting lower resolution videos with no swipe-through functionality.
In addition, Microsoft is also bringing the device audio sharing option to mobile devices. The release allows presenters to include their device audio when sharing audio-enabled content (such as music or videos) with meeting participants. This capability will be disabled by default, and users will need to enable it manually by turning on the “Audio” toggle button available besides the existing “Share Screen” option.
In case you missed it, some other capabilities added to Microsoft Teams on mobile include the ability to translate channel messages. On iOS, the Teams app has also gained Immersive Reader as well as an option to spotlight up to 7 meeting participants.
