Microsoft has issued a cautionary advisory to its customers, notifying them that several versions of Windows 11, specifically the 21H2 edition, will soon undergo end-of-service (EOS) on October 10, 2023.

According to a notification on the Windows 11 lifecycle announcements page, Microsoft has informed users that the end of servicing for Windows 11, version 21H2, is set for October 10, 2023. This applies to the editions mentioned below, all of which were released in October 2021:

  • Windows 11 Home, version 21H2
  • Windows 11 Pro, version 21H2
  • Windows 11 Pro for Workstations, version 21H2
  • Windows 11 Pro Education, version 21H2.

“These editions will no longer receive security updates after October 10, 2023,” Microsoft said Monday.

Subsequently, Windows 11 21H2 devices operating on the aforementioned Home and Pro editions will cease receiving security updates, monthly quality updates, crucial bug fixes, and patches for newly discovered security vulnerabilities upon reaching the end-of-service date.

Microsoft Support will guide users to update their devices to the latest version of Windows 11 if they reach out for assistance after the specified date. The action is necessary to ensure continued support according to the instructions provided by the renowned tech giant.

The majority of devices running Windows 11 version 21H2, the original version of Windows 11, can be easily upgraded to Windows 11 version 22H2. To initiate the update, Windows 11 users can navigate to Start, then go to Settings, and select Windows Update. The option to update to Windows 11 version 22H2 should be visible in this menu. If the option is not displayed, activating the “check for updates” button may be necessary to make it appear.

The software giant introduced the first version of Windows 11 to the general public in 2021. Alongside its release, the company made changes to the servicing model, extending the support tenure for home users to a duration of 2 years, as opposed to the previous 18-month period offered on Windows 10 devices.
