Back and Forward Button

YouTube.com and the YouTube web app on Microsoft Edge and Chrome browsers for Windows 10 and 11 are currently receiving the updates. In the accompanying screenshot, Google has introduced two new buttons labeled “back” and “forward.” These buttons enable users to easily skip forward or backward by 10 seconds while watching a video.

The addition of back and forward buttons offers a straightforward and convenient way for users to navigate within videos. By utilizing these buttons, you can effortlessly skip forward or backward by 10 seconds, granting you greater control over your video playback. This feature proves particularly useful when you desire to revisit or rewatch specific sections of a video.

As of now, you can already utilize the keyboard arrow keys to fast forward or rewind videos by five seconds. Moreover, if you are using a touch-enabled device, you have the option to double-tap on the left or right side of the video to skip backward or forward. These existing features provide alternative methods for navigating through videos based on your preferred input method.

Improved Dark Mode

Recently, Google made a minor update to its servers that has an impact on the suggestions displayed in the search box. This update ensures that the suggestions shown in the search box are in line with the theme of the user’s device. In the past, the search box did not support dark mode, but now, with this update, dark mode functionality is gradually being made available to all users. This means that users can enjoy a consistent and visually pleasing experience as they interact with the search box, regardless of whether they have dark mode enabled on their device.

Higher bitrate for premium 1080P videos

Google has introduced a new premium tier for YouTube, offering higher bitrate support for enhanced viewing on Windows. This feature is exclusively available to premium subscribers, improving the quality of 1080p videos by increasing their bitrate. It is now accessible to all regions and configurations, allowing users on Windows 10 or 11 to enjoy better video quality. Non-subscribers can upgrade to YouTube Premium to access the exclusive higher-quality option. This premium feature applies to 1080p videos but not 4K. It aims to enhance the viewing experience and counteract the previous reduction in 1080p video quality.
