Latest Windows 10 Mobile build will appear for non-supported phones and will waste your time

Earlier today, Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10536 to the Fast ring as part of the Windows Insider program. While the majority if you likely own Lumia devices, there are quite a few people out there who own non-Lumia devices and are eager to test Microsoft’s newest mobile offering.

Unfortunately, there is a bug with build 10536 specifically with what Microsoft calls “detectoids” that allows non-supported smartphones to be able to select and download the newest build. According to Windows Insider boss Gabriel Aul, do not install the build unless your phone is on the list of supported devices, or else your phone will not work and you will need to reflash your device.

@iamcadz @cherrymobilePH DO NOT INSTALL unless your phone is on the list of supported devices. Won’t work and you’ll need to reflash.

Microsoft is working to get more Windows Phone models supported worldwide, but for now, you can head over here to see the initial list of supported devices for the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview. Best of luck to those trying to install the build. Let us know in the comments below if you successfully updated to the newest Windows 10 Mobile build.
