Microsoft recently launched a firmware update for the Lumia 950 and 950 XL flagship Windows 10 Mobile smartphones. They’ve been slow in rolling out, with only a handful of owners lucky enough to find it available when they update their devices. The population of updaters widened a little starting yesterday, and this morning we’re hearing reports of some of the update’s improvements.
Specifically, Twitter user Jez (@MSFTY) reports that one of the most desired enhancements might be in the cards:
Battery life on L950 XL seems massively improved since firmware update yesterday. Watched Netflix for 2 hours, lost only 9% battery.

There’s some interesting speculation in the Twitter thread, including potential CPU/GPU optimizations, along with Edge improvements, all potentially contributing to longer battery life. Whatever the reasons, this will be good news if it proves to be a general improvements.
If you’re running a Lumia 950 or 950 XL and receive the update, give your battery life a good evaluation and let us know in the comments if you experience any improvements. We’ll be sure to give our devices the once- or twice-over and will report in with our own results.
