Started in 2003, Microsoft’s Imagine Cup is an annual competition where teams of young developers students compete to build innovative products in three different categories (Games, Innovation, World Citizenship) and get the chance the win prizes. This year’s competition has actually started back in August, and after 150 national teams recently went through the World Semifinals there are 35 teams left for the Imagine Cup World Finals which are set from July 26 – 29 in Seattle.
During this three-days event, the remaining teams will be judged by a global panel of MVPs, industry experts and Microsoft staff which will then choose a champion for each of the three categories. Each champion will be offered a $50,000 prize, and one of the three champions will then get the chance to win the Imagine Cup and as well as a private mentoring session with Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella.
Among the nine teams competing in the Games category, we have seen some interesting puzzle games and even a VR mobile horror game that leverages biofeedback technology. The Innovation Category features 13 different projects around health, education and more while the 13 remaining teams in the World Citizenship category have worked on innovative services to make the world a better place.
The Imagine Cup World Finals will be livestream on the dedicated website on July 29, 2016, 9:00 am PDT, let us know in the comments if you have spotted interesting projects among the three different categories.
