Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase has received a warm reception from gamers and critics, with many calling the best gaming showcase of the year so far. Some are also calling it the shot in the arm the Xbox brand so badly needed following a rocky past few months that saw the CMA elect to block the Activision Blizzard acquisition in the U.K. followed by a disastrous launch for Redfall—a game that was supposed to be one of the biggest Xbox releases in 2023.
It looks like that reception has already translated into tangible success. In France for example, Xbox Series X|S sales on Amazon jumped a whopping 1,335% since the showcase live-streamed, according to a report from actugaming.net. It has also been reported that the current-gen Xbox was for a time the best-selling console on Gamestop following the showcase.

Some online are calling this the “Starfield Effect,” attributing the spike to Bethesda’s upcoming open-world sci-fi RPG. It’s true that the Starfield deep dive has made a splash—the game has already become the top-selling paid game on Steam just hours after preorders went live. There were a slew of Xbox exclusive games showcased however that also deserve some of the credit, like Fable, Avowed, Forza Motorsport and more.
