Microsoft’s Skype app updated for both iOS and Android devices this past week. The app update for Apple’s iOS devices, such as the iPad and iPhone, brought the app up to Version 8.75 and added a better Share extension with dark mode, in-client Skype Number purchases, and better reactions.
The update for Android smartphones and tablets also added the improved reactions and added blurred backgrounds for video calls.
Here’s the release notes for the iOS Skype update:
We’re listening to your feedback and working hard to improve Skype. Here’s what’s new:
- In-client Skype Number purchases

- Upgraded custom reaction picker so you can now have more reactions right at your fingertips
- Bug fixes and stability improvements

While Skype continues to get solid support on iOS and Android, Microsoft is very clearly in the process of replacing it with Microsoft Teams on Windows 11 devices. Despite this shift though, Microsoft Teams on Windows 11 still has a way to go before it can replace Skype fully.
