Microsoft’s OneDrive app for Android has just received support for Google Cast, allowing users to easily beam videos on Cast-capable devices such as Google’s popular Chromecast HDMI dongles (via Android Police). Google Cast support is live in OneDrive for Android version 6.29.1, though it seems the feature is rolling out gradually.
If you own a Google Chromecast or other devices that support Google Cast, the Cast icon will appear on the top right corner of the app when you open a video in OneDrive for Android. This feature can be really useful for OneDrive users who use Microsoft’s cloud storage service to store all their personal videos.
Google Cast is Google’s alternative to Apple’s AirPlay technology, and the proprietary protocol made its debut with the original Google Chromecast dongle back in 2013. However, Google Cast is now supported by an increasing number of Android-powered TVs from Sony, Vizio, Philips, and other manufacturers.
