Microsoft is launching a new feature that will enable users to have a group chat in Teams with external partners. The Microsoft 365 Roadmap listing indicates that the feature is expected to be rolled out to all users later this month.

Microsoft Teams already supports calling or chatting with people in other organizations and inviting them to meetings. With support for group chats, users will be able to create a group chat with up to 250 participants across different organizations. However, this update will require IT Admins to enable the external access policy in their tenant. It’s a long-awaited feature that should eliminate the need to constantly set up formal meetings for collaborating with external users on projects.

The news comes shortly after Microsoft delayed the rollout of Shared Channels in Teams to November this year. The software gaint recently revealed that Microsoft Teams will add support for apps in external meetings and chats in July. It will allow host users to install, update and delete apps while interacting with external partners via chats or meetings.
