Microsoft has acknowledged a new issue causing some Windows 10 PCs to reboot after installing this month’s Patch Tuesday updates (via ZDNet). The reboots are caused by a failure of the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) file (lsass.exe), and Microsoft says Windows 10 versions 1809 and newer are currently affected.
The bug is also present in the out-of-band updates that Microsoft released last week to fix printing issues in Windows 10 version 1809 and newer. “The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) file (lsass.exe) might fail on some devices with the error message, “A critical system process, C:WINDOWSsystem32lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000008. The machine must now be restarted,” Microsoft explained on its Windows Support site.
Microsoft says that it’s already working on fix will for all affected Windows 10 versions, though there’s no ETA yet. It’s hard to know if these LSASS failures are affecting many Windows 10 users right now, but let us know in the comments if you have encountered this bug.
