While we’re all waiting for Microsoft to share some news about the public rollout of the next major Windows 10 update, the company has just released new “Patch Tuesday” updates for all supported versions of the OS. If you’re running the November 2019 update (or version 1909) on your PC, you can now install the build 18363.778 (KB4549951), while users of the May 2019 Update (version 1903) can install the build 18362.778. Both updates come with the following highlights:
- Updates to improve security when using Microsoft Office products.
- Updates to improve security when Windows performs basic operations.
- Updates for storing and managing files.
Microsoft says that it’s not aware of any issues with this update, though Microsoft recommends you install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) before installing this patch. The latest SSU (KB4552152) should be offered to you automatically through Windows Update.
The Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) is also getting a new patch today with the build 17763.1158 (KB4549949), which includes the same fixes as the ones mentioned above for the KB4549951 update. Microsoft initially planned to end support for this version of Windows 10 for Home and Pro users next month, but due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, monthly patches will continue to be released through November 12, 2020. Moreover, Microsoft announced today that it will temporarily stop automatically updating users of the October 2018 Update to the latest version of Windows 10.
Microsoft also released today new Patch Tuesday updates Windows 10 versions 1803, 1709, 1703, 1607, and 1507, but keep in mind that these patches are only available for Education and Enterprise users. If you’re in that group, we invite you to check Microsoft’s support website for more details.
