Fans of HBO can now watch the network on Xbox One without a cable subscription through Sling TV. To get HBO through Sling TV you’ll need to have a base subscription which costs $20 per month. HBO itself is an additional $15 per month. This addition adds another premier television service to Sling TV’s already robust lineup including ABC Family, AMC, Adult Swim, CNN, Cartoon Network, Disney, EPSN, ESPN2, HGTV, TBS, TNT, and more.
With Sling TV you pay a base rate per month for a core set of channels and then pay extra for packages such as sports extra and HBO. While a subscription to a service is required, Sling TV’s base package ($20/month) and HBO ($15/month) still come to only $35 per month which is one of the least expensive ways to access that amount of content.
HBO coming to Sling TV is an interesting development for the relatively new service. While Sling TV is cheaper than cable to start, if you add HBO and a few extra packages you’re approaching the price some cheaper cable packages. Sling TV’s value in comparison to cable is dependent on which content you’re interested in. If you’re trying to fully cut cable you’ll want to check out our complete breakdown.
Editors note: This story previously referred to HBO GO as being available on Sling TV. This is inaccurate. You will be able to watch HBO on Sling TV, not HBO GO, which is a TV-everywhere service offered by the network. Regardless, you will still be able to watch Game of Thrones on Sling TV!
