It’s not the first time we’ve heard about OEM’s planning to dual-boot Windows Phone and Android on a single device. Huwaei was apparently ready to provide one before they reportedly backed down with their decision for reasons unknown. Even Microsoft was thought be welcoming of the concept when they relaxed the Windows Phone hardware requirements to allow OEM’s to “recycle” their Android devices for Windows Phone, just as we saw with the HTC One M8 for Windows Phone. Although people might have seen Microsoft’s move as invitation for dual-booting, that didn’t seem to be the case.
Nonetheless, today a report from Chinese tech site MyDriver (yeah we haven’t heard of them either) suggests that Vivo are working on a device that will dual-boot Windows Phone 8.1 with a yet to be disclosed version of Android. Based on the leaked screenshot, the device seems to feature a 5-inch display and is very similar in looks to the company’s Vivo X5L.
Whether the company is planning on dual-booting OS’s with this device or are merely testing Windows Phone on existing hardware is unknown, so take this with a grain of salt. Although it would be rather interesting to see considering this hasn’t been done before with Windows Phone, unless you’re still a lucky owner on a HTC HD2 of course.
