Halo Wars, the Xbox 360 real-time strategy game released back in 2009 received the remaster treatment last year ahead of the release of Halo Wars 2. Called Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, the remastered version is an Xbox Play Anywhere title available on both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.
While the re-release was great news for PC gamers who didn’t get the chance to play the Xbox 360 title, the game currently has a somewhat restricted audience on Windows: just like Halo Wars 2 (and other Xbox Play Anywhere titles), it’s a Windows 10 exclusive and the only way to get it is to purchase the Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition bundle, which costs $79.99 on the Windows Store.
However, that could soon change. According to some leaked screenshots that recently appeared on Twitter, it seems that the remastered game could soon launch on Steam (via Windows Central):

Microsoft already released several of its RTS games on Steam such as Age of Empires 2 and Age of Mythology, so the remastered version of Halo Wars could do very well here. If this happens, this would also be the first time that an Xbox Play Anywhere title is released on the popular gaming platform.
Xbox Play Anywhere games are great for gamers that already have an Xbox One and a Windows 10 PC, but it’s irrelevant for all PC gamers that still run Windows 7 and 8. These gamers still represent more than 45% of the Steam user base as of today, which is really nothing to sneeze at.
