Time has run out, Microsoft is cutting OneDrive storage limits starting today

Last year, Microsoft announced that it would no longer offer unlimited OneDrive storage to Office 365 customers after too many users abused the generous offer. At the time, the company explained that it would limit OneDrive storage to 1TB for Office 365 customers starting March 1, 2017, and if you’re still above that limit today it’s now time to take action.

The company explained to Neowin that the new storage limit may take up to 48 hours to be applied on all accounts. For users that still have more than 1TB of files store on OneDrive, their account will enter an “over quota mode,” giving them three months to remove enough files to reach the new 1TB limit.

If Office 365 customers fail to do that during the three month period, their account will then be in a locked state for six months. During that time, Microsoft will give them one opportunity to unlock their account for a period of 30 days, which should be more than enough to move data out of OneDrive and comply with the new storage policy.
