Xbox Amazon app loses Kinect functionality with latest update

Amazon Instant Video App on Xbox One

The new and improved Amazon Video app has begun rolling out to Xbox One console owners and should be now available to manually update by opening the app or through My Games & Apps if it hasn’t already automatically updated in the background.

The new version of the app has been developed in the new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app format and in addition to a new visual design, also brings 4K video streaming to Xbox One users.

One downside of the update to UWP is the format’s lack of support for the Xbox One’s Kinect sensor which many users used for in-app voice commands. Viewers will still be able to play and pause media in the app but most other functionality is now gone until Microsoft gets around to giving app developers access to the Kinect. The updated Netflix app has suffered similar criticism.
