Microsoft’s Xbox One was the best-selling console in the United Kingdom (UK) on Black Friday, beating out Sony’s PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. While Xbox One did sell more consoles, the Nintendo Switch still earned the most revenue from hardware sales than any other console. As noted in a post by Gamesindustry, Xbox One sold well due to deep discounts on the console.
“Microsoft’s device was heavily discounted during the Black Friday sales period, with the Xbox One S All-Digital consoles cut to £110 in Tesco, with £129.99 offers at other retailers. The machine bundled in digital versions of Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, and Fortnite, which is why all of those games charted so well in the software charts. More than 100,000 Xbox One machines were sold last week, according to retailers, which is just slightly behind what the console managed during Black Friday 2018. The All-Digital version was the most successful edition of them all.”
The Xbox One just barely beat out the Nintendo Switch. The new Switch Lite and Neon Switch offer longer battery life and were the biggest sellers on Black Friday 2019 when compared to the same period in 2018. Retailers offered special game bundles, including Nintendo Labo, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, and Pokemon Sword and Shield.
PS4 came in last in sales, selling only 60,000 consoles and offering only two top-selling game bundles; FIFA 20 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
