Xbox One sales rose by 51 percent in June, but PS4 still leads the charts

The market research firm NPD has released their latest figures, highlighting the performance of gaming consoles and games in the US. Although the company didn’t reveal the sales figures for specific consoles, it mentioned that PS4 continues to lead the charts in the US as the top selling console. Microsoft also touted that its Xbox One has seen an impressive 51 percent year-on-year growth in June, which is definitely something to cheer about for the folks in Redmond.

As far as the gaming hardware is concerned, NPD mentions it rose by eight percent to $313.1 million from $291.1 million. The total video game sales also experienced a decent increase of 18 percent, increasing year-over-year from $734.7 million to $869.4 million. Batman: Arkham Knight came on top as the leading gaming title followed by Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited and LEGO: Jurassic World on the second and third spot, respectively. Other gaming titles in the top 10 includes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Splatoon, Minecraft and some others. You can check out the complete list of top-selling games as well as the complete report from NPD here.

“A major factor for the rise in overall software sales was the success of June launches, which collectively rose close to 300 percent in dollar sales compared to June 2014 launches. This more than made up for the fact that there was a slide in the performance of May launches in June compared to last year, which is somewhat expected given the comparison to hits like Mario Kart and Watch Dogs from May 2014,” noted NPD analyst Liam Callahan. “Warner Bros. Interactive is the top Corporate Publisher so far in 2015, with dollar sales growing 217 percent versus the first half of 2014.”

Some interesting titles are expected to launch on the Xbox One in the coming months, but will be enough to dethrone PS4 from the top spot?
