Microsoft has been in the hardware business for years, producing everything from mice to game consoles. With the launch of Xbox One, many believe that this generation of console hardware will be the last. The future of gaming or an “Xbox Two” wouldn’t take on the same form factor as it does now, as some have said. With the ongoing push for cloud computing and mobile use, our future devices may be much different from our current ones.
With this is mind, you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking that our current gaming hardware won’t exist in its same form years from now. Having this idea spurs on the speculation that the next Xbox could look closer to Microsoft’s HoloLens then a black box under our TVs. However, Xbox head Phil Spencer had this to say about Xbox’s future hardware:
I fully expect that you’ll see another console from us. Our best customers are Xbox console customers, and I want to keep those people engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future. I’m 100 percent committed to that.
We are still in the infancy of the Xbox One, with many more years of gaming ahead of us. Our current Xbox hardware is designed in a way to “disappear” under our entertainment systems. A future Xbox console could be designed to be anything at this point. We’ll just have to wait and see. What do you want to see from the next Xbox console? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
