A new report suggests that the next generation Xbox, dubbed Xbox 720, will have six times the power of the current Xbox 360 and will be available in the fall of 2013. This coincides nicely with a previous report of the GPU being based on a Radeon graphics engine.

Earlier this month, reports were claiming that Microsoft had started to produce chips for the next generation Xbox. The chips are being manufactured by IBM and Globalfoundries. The chip includes PowerPC microprocessor cores, as well as AMD Radeon HD graphics engine based on the graphics core next architecture.

Now a new report, from IGN, is suggesting that mass production of the Xbox 720’s GPU will indeed begin by the end of 2012 with a release of the console in the fall of 2013. The Xbox 720 is reported to have a GPU similar to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D, and 1080p HD output. On top of that, the raw graphics processing power of the Xbox 720 is expected to be at least six times the power of the current Xbox 360 and is expected to be 20% faster than Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console.

There were rumors about Microsoft announcing a new Xbox console at this years E3 conference, but according to a senior marketing director at Microsoft, the company will not be announcing any new console.
