Windows 10 Mobile receives a new security update, potentially patches for Meltdown and Spectre flaws

Microsoft has pushed out a new security update to Windows 10 Mobile users. The update notes security improvements for a number of areas within the operating system, leading to suspicions that this patch is aimed at the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities in Intel, ARM and AMD processors that were disclosed earlier this week.

Listed as KB4056891 under the Windows 10 update from earlier this week, the update notes the following:

  • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Edge, Windows Graphics, Windows Kernel, Windows Subsystem for Linux, and the Windows SMB Server.

However, a new note on the page states that it not only includes updates for Windows 10, but also Windows 10 Mobile:

Note:  The release also contains updates for Windows 10 Mobile (OS Build 15063.850) released on January 5, 2018

The update is available from within Update & Security in the Settings app.
