Microsoft late this afternoon pushed out Windows 10 20H1 build 19041.207 to the Slow Ring. As usual, this quality update just adds some touches for those who are previewing the next major Windows 10 update which we expect for later this spring. There aren’t any new features.
Just as in the past, some key changes for this release cover some issues under the hood of the operating system. This ranges from the Remote Procedure Call service, the Device Enrollment Status Page, and more. There’s also a fix for a situation where the flash on devices with a rear camera might not work. - We fixed an issue that causes the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service (rpcss.exe) to close unexpectedly and the device stops working. Then you must restart the device.
- We fixed an issue that causes the Device Enrollment Status Page (ESP) on managed devices to stop responding if a policy that requires a restart is installed on the device.
- We fixed an issue that might prevent the rear camera flash from functioning as expected on devices that have a rear camera.
- It also includes the latest security updates to the Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Kernel, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Media, Windows Shell, Windows Management, Windows Cloud Infrastructure, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Virtualization, Windows Core Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Update Stack, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.
As for known issues, there’s only one problem in this release. It relates to Microsoft Edge. Microsoft says Narrator and NVDA users that seek the latest release of Microsoft Edge based on Chromium may experience some difficulty when navigating and reading certain web content.
With today being Patch Tuesday, many expected Microsoft to officially release the Windows 10 20H1 update. But, with another Slow Ring build coming, it looks as though Microsoft isn’t yet ready to release it to everyone just yet. We’ll have to wait for another few weeks.
