To the roar of applause at Build Conference Microsoft’s Kevin Gallo announced that the full Bash shell is coming to Windows.  He pointed out that it is not a virtual machine but is native Ubuntu binaries that are able to be used thanks to a subsystem.

This may seem like “boring coding news” to those not in the know but to those at a conference based on developing this is an extremely important story. “Open source command line tools” is what Galo closed with before moving on to Microsoft’s next porting tool.

This is a continuing story and we’ll have more on it as it develops.
