Surface Pro 4 now supports new Type Covers with latest firmware update

Last month, Microsoft released new Surface Pro Type covers along with its latest 2-in-1 PC, and you can even choose between three Alcantara-covered Signature Type Covers for a more premium look. If the new Type Covers are already backward compatible with the 2015 Surface Pro 4 (the new Surface Pro kept the exact same ports), Microsoft has just released a new firmware update for these tablets that should improve support for the new accessories (via Neowin).

The new update should appear as “Surface – Keyboard – 1.1.504.0” in Windows Update, and Microsoft notes that it should improve both reliability and compatibility. The new Type Covers may look very similar to the previous models, though the new accessories should provide a better typing experience thanks to a new scissor mechanism and a full 1.3 mm of key travel between the keys. Moreover, the trackpad has also been improved with better gesture support and accuracy.

If you’re looking to purchase a new Type Cover for your Surface Pro 4, the base model without the Alcantara fabric is currently $129.99 on the Microsoft Store, and the more premium-looking Signature Type Cover is just $30 more.
