Square Enix has just announced a pretty cool Rise of the Tomb Raider Collector’s Edition for the upcoming sequel to the recent Tomb Raider reboot. This special release of the game will come with the Xbox One disk version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, a collectible steel case (presumably to store the game), a fairly detailed 12″-tall statue of Lara Croft as seen in the game cover artwork, a replica of Lara’s leather in-game journal, and a model of Lara’s Jade Necklace which includes the pendant that she found in the first game. The box the entire set comes in is also rather cool and imitates a wooden crate as seen in the game.
The Rise of the Tomb Raider Collector’s Edition will be available on the 10th of November, the same day as the game’s general release. It can currently be bought in the North American Tomb Raider Store as well as the North American and European Square Enix Store. While there are no official announcements yet for a broader release, comments by Square Enix staff in the comments on the official blog suggest that other retailers may also stock it but there is no official news to announce yet.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is an important release for Microsoft. The company has purchased about a year of console exclusivity for the title (which means that it will see a release on Xbox One and Xbox 360 for about a year before it comes to Sony’s rival PlayStation 4 videogame console) and has heavily promoted it as one of the Xbox One’s main franchises alongside Halo and the upcoming Fable Legends.
A special limited edition Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox One controller is also being given away in a competition at this year’s PAX Prime and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is set to be given to Xbox Live Gold members for free as part of September’s Games with Gold promotion for those that have yet to experience the reinvigorated franchise.
