Playground Games co-founder forms new AAA studio Lighthouse Games

Co-founder and former studio head of Playground Games Gavin Raeburn has opened a new game studio, which will be based in Playground’s hometown of  Leamington, U.K.

For those unfamiliar with Playground Games, it is the studio behind the popular Forza Horizon series. During his tenure at Playground Games, Raeburn was instrumental in making the open-world simcade racer one of biggest games on Xbox.

His new studio is to be named Lighthouse Games, (not to be confused with mobile game maker Lighthouse Games Studio) and currently has a staff of around 30, including former colleagues and other industry veterans. Raeburn says,

People should be looking at Lighthouse expecting that we’ll be producing something highly polished and technologically ambitious,” he adds. “That’s exactly our ambition, and the heritage of our team makes that possible.”

There are no details at this point on what exactly Lighthouse Games is working on as its first project, though the studio’s games will be “triple-A through-and-through” according to Raeburn.

Lighthouse Games is the second new studio this year to be formed by former Playground Games developers. Back in January we reported that a group of 10 former Playground staff had joined to create Maverick Games, again headquartered in Leamington Spa.
