If you’ve been anxiously awaiting new Windows Insider builds over the holidays, your wait is over. Today Microsoft announced new builds for both the Dev and Beta Channels, continuing the tradition of releasing two flavors of Beta builds.
Dev Channel
First up is Windows 11 Insider build 25272 for the Dev Channel. This build moves Quick Assist out of Windows Tools into the Start menu’s All apps list to make it easier to find. 25272 does contain one significant deletion:
- We are removing the suggestion action for searching copied text in Microsoft Edge and showing recommend common websites on the Recommended section in Start – both of which began rolling out with Build 25247. Thanks to all the Insiders who gave us feedback on these two experiences. As a reminder, features and experiences we try out in the Dev Channel may get removed and never released beyond the Dev Channel as we incubate new ideas and get feedback from Insiders.
Microsoft is also continuing to move to the latest “packaged” version of WSL, the Windows Subsystem for Linux. If you still have the older “inbox” version of WSL, you’ll notice that it’s gone, and you’ll have to update to the packaged version. Some more information over at GitHub.
This latest Dev Channel Build also adds a refresh button to the Windows print queue, and the usual list of fixes.
Beta Channel
If you’re on the Beta Channel, there are updates for you, too. Build 22621.1095 and 22623.1095 both bring an updated search bar design with really round corners, 22623 adds the Quick Assist link to the Start menu just like 25272, and there’s quite a long list of fixes for both varieties of the Beta Channel builds. Be sure to check out the full list over at the Windows Insider blog, and happy bug hunting!
