If you’ve been following any of the news about the Windows Phone, you’ve probably heard about the Cityman and the Talkman. These are the codenames for two supposed Windows 10 Mobile flagships; the Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950, respectively. These two, from a report by ITHome, are reported to support Qualcomm Quick Charge. This feature is supported by the Snapdragon 808 and the Snapdragon 810, the processors that these phones will supposedly be equipped with.
The Qualcomm Quick Charge feature is something that can charge devices up to 70% faster, according to Qualcomm’s own website. Their study claims that a device using Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 was able to charge from 0% to 60% in 30 minutes, where the same device without Quick Charge charged to 12% in the same amount of time. Qualcomm has some very serious technology on offer here, and I’m excited to be able to use a smartphone on a daily basis without needing to plug it into a wall at an unreasonably frequent rate. While Qualcomm’s test was done in-house and its results should be taken with a grain of salt, the fact remains that Quick Charge is a fairly powerful feature, and is the solution to a battery life problem any smartphone user has.
The inclusion of Quick Charge was something of a given, with many new smartphones already supporting the feature. That being said, it’s nice to hear something in the way of confirmation about this potentially huge selling point. Nothing is final until we’ve been able to see these new devices for ourselves and receive some specifications about the hardware they’re going to be fit with, but we can reasonably assume this feature will be present on the fateful day when these phones hit store shelves.
