Microsoft Teams has released a new update that lets public preview users configure the type of notifications that appear in the activity feed. It’s one of the top requested features from users, who will now be able to disable all reactions and prevent specific app notifications from surfacing in the activity feed.

For those unfamiliar, the Activity Feed in Teams acts as a Notification center that shows @mentions, emoji reactions, message replies, and other notifications. However, this feature aims to reduce the information overload that many users might be experiencing at the moment.

“A key user pain point in activity today is that important information is getting buried and there is just too much noise. Reaction and App activities are one of the top culprits and the ability to turn them off is a top 3 ask from our users. These controls have always been available in Global Notification Settings, yet we continue to hear feedback on this from users due to its low discovery,” the company explained in a message on the Microsoft 365 Admin center.

To configure the Activity Feed notifications, you will need to click the bell icon available in the top left corner of the app. Then, right-click on any feed item and select the “Turn off all reactions” option from the context menu. You can repeat the same process to disable notifications from select apps.

The new notification customization experience in Teams is currently in public preview, and it is expected to be generally available by the end of this month. Do you think that this feature will help users to be more productive? Let us know in the comment section below.
