Windows 10 Mobile may be dead for consumers, but Microsoft is still helping users loyal to the platform stay secure and maintain their devices. Indeed, it has been noted that Microsoft recently pushed out a new tool for Windows PCs which will help users update their Windows Phone 8.1 or Windows 10 Mobile devices.

The tool is an application for Windows 10 which is designed for Enterprise users. It is an Over- the-Cable (OTC) updater, which will automatically update a Windows phone device to the latest software version. The tool can be downloaded here, and eliminates the need to install every update individually in order to get a device up to date. Keep these system requirements in mind before downloading:

Device must be able to connect to a PC via USB – device with PIN lock must be unlocked before using the OTC Updater – device must be in Airplane mode before using the OTC Updater – PC running a supported Windows client OS with latest service pack installed – PC must have a minimum of .NET 4.0 installed – PC must have Internet connectivity and be able to connect to WU.

This OTC tool is the only current way to update a Windows phone device to the latest supported Operating system version via a PC. So, although there is still no word on the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update for Mobile, this app will definitely help will make updating easier for organizations who may have multiple Windows Phone devices in their lineup once it is released.
