Microsoft and Mercy are partnering to use generative AI and other digital technologies to improve patient care and experience. Here are some specific ways Mercy plans to use generative AI.

  1. Generative AI-Assisted Communication: AI-powered tools can help patients understand their lab results and communicate better with healthcare providers, empowering them to have more meaningful discussions about their health.
  2. Improved Appointment Scheduling: AI will handle patient calls and suggest follow-up actions, reducing the need for multiple interactions.
  3. Co-Worker Chatbot: Mercy will use a chatbot to help its healthcare staff easily access information on policies, procedures, HR-related inquiries, and more. This will simplify internal processes and let healthcare professionals concentrate on patient care.
  4. Data-Driven Decision-Making: Microsoft’s secure cloud and AI capabilities will enable real-time clinical decision-making. Mercy plans to centralize data on Microsoft Azure, providing care teams with smart dashboards and insights to reduce unnecessary patient hospital stays.

These use cases will provide predictive, proactive, and personalized healthcare experiences. In 2024, Mercy and Microsoft plan to showcase Mercy’s innovative solutions at the Microsoft Technology Center in Chicago.

Overall, the collaboration between Microsoft and Mercy represents a significant advancement in applying advanced digital technologies to healthcare delivery.

With the help of generative AI, healthcare can become more personalized and accessible to all patients, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status. Moreover, generative AI can ease the burden on healthcare providers, allowing them to concentrate on more complex tasks and spend more time with their patients. Lastly, generative AI can expedite the pace of medical research and development, leading to the discovery of new and more effective disease treatments.
