To improve hybrid cloud business continuity solutions, Microsoft has acquired InMage, the cloud-based data recovery company. InMage offers a product line called Scout that uses continuous data protection (CDP) for backup and replication. Microsoft is planning on bringing its business continuity features to Azure.
The announcement was made just a day after Satya Nadella, the current Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, mentioned “Organizations will change. Mergers and acquisitions will occur. Job responsibilities will evolve. New partnerships will be formed. Tired traditions will be questioned. Our priorities will be adjusted. New skills will be built. New ideas will be heard. New hires will be made. Processes will be simplified.”
Microsoft’s corporate VP, Takeshi Numoto, in a blog post, said that the ability to backup, replicate and quickly recover data and applications in case of a system failure is very important, and InMage offers an innovative solution that should not break budgets.
“With the completion of this acquisition, we are now working to integrate the InMage Scout technology into our Azure Site Recovery service in order to give customers a simple, cost-effective way to ensure business continuity with the power and scale of the Azure global cloud. The company already announced its plan to enable data migration to Azure with Scout. Existing customers can continue to use the InMage products and services they trust and, moving forward, customers will acquire Scout through Azure Site Recovery. We will also continue to work with InMage service provider partners, as well as new partners, to give our mutual customers a range of solution options,” Numoto said.
