In addition to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL announcements at the Windows 10 devices event, the Lumia 550 also got a quick mention. There was no great fanfare as with the two flagships, but we do know that the Lumia 550 has a quad-core processor and 4G LTE and will be available in December 2015 for $139. Lumia 550 may not be sporting the same red-hot specs as Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL, but it is hands-down the most affordable Windows 10 option. Microsoft’s goal is to get Windows 10 onto 1 billion devices, this is the best way to do it.
According to Microsoft, the Lumia 550 will have a 4.7-inch HD720 display with Glance Screen (1280 x 720 pixels), 1 GB RAM, 5 MP rear camera, 2 MP front-facing camera, 8 GB of storage, microSD card slot, and 2100 mAh battery. Not exactly trailblazing specs, but Lumia 550 is the most affordable Windows 10 option. I think that Lumia 550 will do well in developing markets and will likely inspire more people to use Windows 10 phones. No word yet on which carrier the Lumia 550 will land on yet, but stay tuned to WinBeta for more details.
