Following its release on the Xbox One and Windows 10 back in October, Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition has been delivering monthly updates to the game that brought various gameplay improvements and new content to enjoy. Today, the game studio announced on Xbox Wire the roll out of the February update which will introduce additional improvements to the game, a week-long Valentine’s event and more.

“Gears has always embraced the Holidays, and this Valentine’s Day is no different,” explained the Coalition. “February 10th marks the beginning of over a week of Valentine’s Day celebrations, with new Gear Packs to earn, daily Valentine’s themed bounties, another Craftable Character to collect, and the much-requested return of Torque Bow Tag (with a Cupid-style twist!).”

The Gears of War 4 February Update is also bringing two new multiplayer maps which will be familiar to fans: the first one, Impact Dark, is a redesigned version of Impact set in nighttime, with reduced visibility and some weapon changes. The other one is War Machine, a classic Gears of War map which is now set in a new COG settlement. Season Pass Holders can try these new maps today in the Developer Playlist and take advantage of double XP and 20% bonus credits.

The Guardian multiplayer mode is also being updated today with the introduction of Leader Spawns. “Now, you’ll respawn in a location close to your Leader adding a new tactical edge – Leaders now need to position themselves in beneficial areas of the map, while other players will have more opportunity to get back to their leader and come to their aid,” explained the Coalition.

Last but not least, the game studio shared some details about the new features and improvements that are currently in the pipeline, including new achievements:

  • A pre-game lobby system for Core and Competitive playlists will be introduced in the March update
  • More legacy characters (including Locust characters) will also be added to the game
  • A new “Inconceivable” difficulty and an IronMan mode are planned for the Campaign and Horde modes
  • Horde mode will also get level 6 skills for all class skills plus more skills for existing classes

Gears of War 4 definitely remains one of the best shooters you can play on your Xbox One or Windows 10 PC today, and it’s great to see that The Coalition is committed to support the game in the coming months. Sound off in the comments if you’re excited by all the new content included in the February update.
