July Patch Tuesday updates are now available for the Windows 10 May 2020 Update and older versions

Microsoft has just released new Patch Tuesday updates for the Windows 10 May 2020 update and older versions of the OS. If you’re already running the latest version of the OS on your PC, you can now download the build 19041.388, which includes the following fixes:

  • Improves security in the Microsoft Store.
  • Updates to improve security when using input devices (such as a mouse, keyboard, or stylus).
  • Updates to improve security when Windows performs basic operations.
  • Updates for storing and managing files.
  • Updates an issue that might cause certain games and applications to have visual distortion when resizing in windowed mode or switching from full screen to window mode.
  • Updates to improve security when using Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge Legacy.
  • Updates an issue that might prevent some applications from printing documents that contain graphics or large files.
  • Updates an issue that might prevent you from connecting to OneDrive using the OneDrive app

Microsoft also announced today that starting this month, all Windows Updates will disable the RemoteFX vGPU feature because of a security vulnerability. Once this feature is disabled, attempts to start virtual machines (VMs) will fail as support the RemoteFX 3D video adapter has been deprecated.

The RemoteFX vGPU feature has now been disabled in all versions of Windows 10, including older versions such as the May 2019 Update and the November 2019 Update. These two versions are getting today the builds 18362.959 and 18363.959, respectively, which both include the following fixes:

  • Updates to improve security when using Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge Legacy.
  • Updates to improve security when using Microsoft Office products.
  • Updates to improve security when using input devices (such as a mouse, keyboard, or stylus).
  • Improves security in the Microsoft Store.
  • Updates to improve security when Windows performs basic operations.
  • Updates for storing and managing files.
  • Updates an issue that might prevent some applications from printing documents that contain graphics or large files.

The Windows 10 October 2018 Update, which will still be supported for Home and Pro users until November 2020, is also getting the build 17763.1339 today with the following fixes:

  • Updates to improve security when using Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge Legacy.
  • Updates to improve security when Windows performs basic operations.
  • Updates to improve security when using Microsoft Office products.
  • Updates to improve security when using input devices (such as a mouse, keyboard, or stylus).
  • Improves security in the Microsoft Store.
  • Updates an issue that might prevent some applications from printing documents that contain graphics or large files.

Microsoft has also released new cumulative updates for Windows 10 versions 1803, 1709, 1703, 1607, and 1507 today, though these updates are only available for Windows 10 Enterprise and Education users. We invite you to check the release notes on Microsoft’s support website for more details.
