The past few months have seen yet another tidal wave of apps choosing to abandon Microsoft’s Windows phone platform. Big names such as Runtastic and SmartThings are just 2 of the most recent to announce their departure. Mojang, owned by Microsoft, also announced that its Minecraft: Pocket Edition would no longer be updated for Windows phone devices.
Now, another big name brand is pulling one of its apps. HSBC France has been reaching out to users of its Windows phone app to let them know that it will be ending its support for the platform (via TheWinDose), placing the blame firmly on Microsoft.
HSBC says that it will cease the apps operation in February 2017. It recommends users either switch platform to either iOS or Android, or use a PC to log-in to their account via the web. It claims that Microsoft abandoning its own mobile platform led to the bank making this decision.
The company never updated the app to support new Windows 10 Mobile features, providing only fixes and security updates. Unfortunately, it appears that users of Windows phone devices are either going to need to switch bank or mobile platform to continue managing their HSBC account(s) on-the-go.
