Windows 10 Preview Build 14986 went live yesterday for the Fast Ring as we make way towards the Creators Update with a heavy dose of improvements and fixes for the PC. Unfortunately, many Insiders’ excitement was met with a stone wall of downloading issues (via Neowin).
Social media and Microsoft forums are lit up with many Insiders reporting that the download for Build 14986 is stuck at 0%. Some even say that they waited several hours before getting an error code 802440031.
Some people are wondering if this might have anything to do with the switch to the Unified Update Platform. To fill you in, Preview updates were paused last week while Microsoft prepared to make Insider builds release through the UUP. Instead of downloading content that is unnecessary, the platform will set up installation for only content that needs updating on the PC.
No comment has been made to the cause as of yet but Microsoft forum moderator Jason has confirmed that this is an issue with many users and that the team is aware of it. He also is asking anyone with the error 80244031 to share their details including a list of questions that might help Microsoft track down the issue.
If you are having trouble downloading the Windows 10 Preview Build 14986, it might be in your best interest to hop over to the Microsoft forums and let them know. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved soon.
