Get ready for Doctor Strange with new Skype bot and emoticons

Just a day before the release of superhero film Doctor Strange in the US, the Skype team has partnered with producer Marvel Studios to bring the former surgeon and practitioner of the mystical arts to the ubiquitous messaging app. Starting today, you can now use a new set of Doctor Strange emoticons as well as chat with a Doctor Strange bot to “find out if you have what it takes to become Doctor Strange’s newest personal assistant,” shared the Skype team in a blog post announcing the news.

The new Doctor Strange emojis are based on popular characters from the Marvel Comics such as Kaecilius and the Ancient One. More emoticons will be added in the next few weeks, the team explained.

As for the new Doctor Strange bot, it has been designed to let you apply to become the Doctor’s assistant just as he begins his training in the mystical arts. In the video below, you can watch writer/director of the movie Scott Derrickson try it live, and the results are pretty funny.

According to the blog post, both the Skype bot and the Doctor Strange emoticons should roll out today to users running the latest version of the Skype app on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android or Skype for The Web, though we couldn’t find them at the time of our writing. If you planned to see the movie tomorrow, let us know in the comments what do you think of this latest initiative from the folks over at Skype.
