It’s almost three years to the day since Fortnite’s story mode, now named Save the World, launched in Early Access and now it’s finally graduating from its preview/open beta mode to be a full, proper release.
Until now, Fortnite players could only play Save the World by purchasing a Founder’s Pack from their Xbox One or other platform’s digital storefront. As of today, these Founder’s Packs have begun to be taken down with plans to replace them with new Save the World packs which will unlock access to the game mode and reward buyers with in-game items.
The first Save the World pack has already been announced and it is set to go on sale this Thursday for $20. It’s called The Metal Team Leader Pack (see above image) and will come with the new Papa Bear weapon schematic, Warning Bow Back Bling, the Metal Team leader Challenges, and entry to Save the World. These challenges, once completed, will also unlock 1,000 V-Bucks, 500 X-Ray Tickets, and a Legendary Troll Stash Llama for players. All of these items will be usable within the popular Battle Royale mode and the Creative mode.
According to the official announcement, development on Save the World will slow down with its public launch with a decrease in new content being added. There will, however, be season events for players to keep the mode active.
Unfortunately, this decrease in development means that future Battle Royale items will not be able to work in Save the World. This does seem rather odd and makes one wonder if the mode is being abandoned rather than finished due to the sheer popularity and profitability of the free-to-play Battle Royale mode.
June has been a rather big month for Fortnite fans with the end of Chapter 2 Season 2, the beginning of Chapter 2 Season 3, the launch of LoserFruit’s own skin, and new virtual events for the Fortnite Party Royale digital space.
