Bethesda has announced (in a rather inconspicuous manner) that Fallout 4 will be getting a next-gen upgrade sometime in 2023. This means the update, which will be completely free, will be available on Xbox Series X|S (and PS5) as a native current-gen title, rather than an Xbox One port.
What exactly will the update include? According to the announcement, which was somewhat hidden among the Fallout 25th Anniversary news,
Coming in 2023, this free update will be available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC systems, including performance mode features for high frame rates, quality features for 4K resolution gameplay and even bonus Creation Club content!
Other than that brief statement, no further details were given. While the game runs quite well as-is, a next-gen update—particularly a free one—is always welcome. Especially when you consider that Fallout 5 is a long ways off. If you haven’t played Fallout 4 yet, will you be waiting for the update before diving in to the dangerous, post-apocalyptic world of the Commonwealth? Let us know in the comments.
