Dark mode for Outlook on Android: first impressions

Dark mode for Outlook on Android and iOS was announced barely over a week ago, and seems to be steadily making its way to users who downloaded the app on the Google Play Store. The new theme is definitely a welcome addition, and is designed to be more comfortable to read in darker environments in addition to saving battery.

At first glance, one thing that most users will likely appreciate is that emails themselves are also switched over to dark mode automatically. This is much easier on the eyes than if the emails themselves were light, as you won’t be blinded as soon as the screen goes from jet back to bright white.

Another useful setting is that you can set dark mode to automatically kick in when battery saver is turned on. This is especially useful to those on OLED screens, as fewer lit pixels means less energy going to power the screen.
