Microsoft has released a security update for Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 devices, incorporating Android’s security fixes from July 2023. However, this update doesn’t include any new features or major changes. The Surface Duo family has not received a meaningful feature update in almost a year.

There are concerns about the future of the Surface Duo lineup due to the lack of updates and uncertainty regarding major Android updates such as Android 13 or Android 14. Meanwhile, when it comes to Surface laptops, the new Surface Laptop Go could be more powerful and more expensive.

According to WindowsCentral, several Surface Duo OS team members have been reassigned to other projects. Microsoft has not yet confirmed any plans for major updates beyond security patches.

Given the perceived lack of support and updates for the Surface Duo lineup, some users might consider alternatives such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold.
