It’s June 23rd and its Windows Store Sunday! So what does that mean? It means it is now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Store as well as highlight one app for your downloading pleasure. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.

Currently in the Windows Store as of June 23rd, the top five free apps in the United States based on popularity are:

  1. Xbox SmartGlass
  2. Skype
  3. Facebook Now
  4. Google Search
  5. Instagram Now

Let’s not forget the top five paid apps currently in the Windows Store:

  1. LCARS Interface
  2. Doodle God
  3. Fruit Ninja
  4. Angry Birds Star Wars
  5. 4 Elements II Special Edition

As of June 23rd, there are 94,298 apps in the Windows Store, an increase of 4,965 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps list saw only one change. This week’s list now features a new app called Instagram Now, which is a third party Instagram app for those who use the service. The app has over 600 ratings already and seems to be quite popular. It is obvious that Instagram users are itching for the official app. In the top paid app list, LCARS Interface continues to be number one while Doodle God debuts on the list at second place. Fruit Ninja returns to the top five list after an absence last week.

For those who are curious at what the new Windows Store look will be with the upcoming Windows 8.1 update, head over to this link. We are just 3 short days away from Build 2013 and the day Microsoft is expected to release the public preview version of Windows 8.1, the next big update to Windows 8.

During this week, Microsoft rolled out an update to the Music app for Windows 8, adding an in-app search bar and the ability to listen to fifteen free songs without having to sign in. Microsoft also revealed this week that several new apps would be making an appearance in the Windows Store at the heels of the Windows 8.1 Preview release.

These new apps include Edjing, an app that provides DJ’ing effects; Great British Chefs app, an app that offers 300 photographed recipes from popular UK Chefs; Tesco Groceries app, for those who shop at Tesco in the UK; Time Out app, which showcases what’s happening in cities around the world; VEVO app, for those who use the popular personalized music video and music entertainment platform; Vyclone social media app, and a puzzle game called Where’s My Mickey.

Every week, we will feature one app or game that we will rank as the “top” Windows Store app for the week. It doesn’t mean that this app is better than every other app out there, it just means that this app should get your attention this week. The following week, we will showcase another great app, and so on. So here we go:

Doodle God

Doodle God, a paid app in the Windows Store, is an app that has over 170 ratings in the Windows Store and is available in 12 different languages. This app brings the power of creation right into your hands. This app allows you to unleash your creativity and features visually stunning graphics.

“The power of creation is in your hands! In this addictive, all ages, puzzle game mix and match different combinations of fire, earth, wind and air to create an entire universe! Of course the universe was not created in a single day. You will have to work your way up from a simple microorganism to create animals, tools, storms and even build armies before you have what it takes to build the universe! But beware, the power of creation may have unintended consequences, inventing the wheel might just trigger a zombie plague… Don’t worry; you are not alone on this cosmic journey! Every time you successfully create a new item you’ll be rewarded with the wit and wisdom of some of the greatest philosophers and comedians of all time. Unleash your inner god with Doodle God,” the app description reads.
