Surface Pro already sold out at, BestBuy, and Staples, hours into its launch

Surface Pro

The Surface Pro, powered by Windows 8 Pro, was officially launched online at, as well as BestBuy and Staples, and within a few hours, the 128GB model of the Surface Pro is already sold out at Microsoft’s online store.

The 128GB Surface Pro, which does not come with a Touch or Type cover, runs for $999 and is already sold out at No word on when Microsoft will have this model back in stock. The 64GB Surface Pro is still available for $899, but we can only imagine this model being sold out very soon too.

According to a recent report from Digitimes, Microsoft was only planning on having an initial shipment volume of one million Surface Pro units. This is obviously less than what Microsoft planning with the Surface RT, which had an initial shipment volume of four million units. Could this be a factor in why the Surface Pro is already being sold out? Perhaps the critics were wrong and the Surface Pro is expected to be a big hit.

Update: 09:30AM PST: MicrosoftStore Canada still has the 128GB model in stock. It appears that the U.S. MicrosoftStore has it sold out. BestBuy in Canada has the 64GB and the 128GB sold out as well. Thanks Ed Tanas for the tip! Also, Staples has ran out of stock for the 128GB Surface Pro.

Update: 11:30AM PST: Looks like the Surface Pro 64GB is also out of stock on the U.S. online Microsoft Store. Microsoft has also issued a statement regarding the devices being out of stock. “Customer response to the launch of Surface Pro has been amazing. We’re working with our retail partners who are currently out of stock of the 128GB Surface Pro to replenish supplies as quickly as possible. Our priority is to ensure that every customer gets their new Surface Pro as soon as possible,” Microsoft explained.

Update: 08:00PM PST: The 64GB Surface Pro is now back in stock on the online Microsoft Store (U.S.)
