It’s July 7th and it’s Windows Store Sunday! So what does that mean? It means it is now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store as well as highlight one app for your downloading pleasure. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.

As of July 7th, there are 101,723 in the Windows Store, an increase of 2,322 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps list saw a few changes. This week we see Facebook Now and YouTube Now on the top-five free list, along with the addition of the VEVO app. In the paid category, we see a cool new game make the list, called Rayman Jungle Run. Fruit Ninja is still the top paid app and Angry Birds Space makes its return to the top-five paid list.

With the launch of the Windows 8.1 Preview, the Windows Store has been completely redesigned to make it easier to find apps and browse through a wide selection of apps. With the Windows Store recently hitting the 100k app mark, this new design makes it easier than ever. Here’s a tip: When browsing through apps in the Windows Store, simply right click anywhere to see a dropdown that easily takes you to any app category or even lets you see the top paid or top free apps.

Just recently, the Evernote app for Windows 8 received a new update adding some new features to the app. Microsoft also rolled out updates to the Video, Maps, and Finance apps for Windows 8 this week, adding some bug fixes and new features.

Every week, we will feature one app or game that we will rank as the “top” Windows Store app for the week. It doesn’t mean that this app is better than every other app out there, it just means that this app should get your attention this week. The following week, we will showcase another great app, and so on. So here we go:

YouTube Now

YouTube Now is a free app in the Windows Store for Windows 8 and Windows RT that allows you to experience YouTube on your device via a modern app. With an average rating of 3.1, this app is basically the YouTube website embedded into a modern app (via a web view control) and also features navigational elements to help you navigate and pin a page to the Start Screen.

“YouTube Now brings the experience of YouTube to your Windows device! Browse all your favorite videos, upload your own videos, access your channels and more! With integrated search, share, and start screen pinning, YouTube Now provides an elegant, smooth Windows experience,” the app description reads.
